Can sleep apnea cause seizures?

I have a 6 yr. old daughter who recently started having seizures in her sleep. (or recently that I know of) The first time I called 911, the second time I drove her to the hospital myself. They were 8 days apart and both were in the middle of the night. We went in and had a cat scan, mri and eeg. No signifacant results, which is good news, but I can’t live the rest of my life waking up every time she scratches an itch. She has always snored slightly and had to have her adnoids out at age 4 because of this. Does any one here have a sleep apnea and if so, have you ever had a seizure because of it?

well yes kinda my son 2 also has sleep apnea and as you know it is because they stop breathing(apnea) so if they stop for a longer amount of time then oxygen to the brain has stopped so they could sizer now remember I’m not a Dr this is just we were told by my sons Dr we also keep him on a pulse oxcemider at night so i know if he stops breathing you might ask for one good luck if you have any more ?s i will be happy to help

Can sleep apnea cause breathing trouble when awake?

Yes, it can. Your nose/throat may have a problem that cause blockage even when awake.

Sleep Apnea….Better than Bipolar Disorder.

Demonstrating my CPAP (Continuous Pressure Airway Pump) that I use at night to protect me from sleep apnea. Kind of just a fun video in case any of you think I’m like not vulnerable or whatever, and definitely if you know someone who has the disorder, let me know (I just started on it.)

And yes, I know I sound stupid but I have nothing better to do on a Monday night when homework is lacking :) And in case you’re wondering, yes, SLEEP APNEA IS BETTER THAN BIPOLAR. DON’T ASK WHY ;)

Do I have Obstructive or Central sleep apnea?

Ok so Ill jsut be sleeping and randomly every once in a while ill wake up not breathing. somtimes it happens when im sick and other times it will happen out of the blue.

Given that brief history, the condensed answer is ‘yes’, you could have obstructive or central sleep apnoea. Features which suggest a problem of sleep apnoea include: a history of witnessed episodes of breathing cessation during sleep, loud snoring, unrefreshing sleep, waking episodes with choking/gasping/shortness of breath, and increased sleepiness during the day.

The only way to confidently diagnose sleep apnoea is via a sleep study (polysomnogram)… so if there is a significant concern, then seeing a sleep physician would be the next step.

What exactly is sleep diagnostics and cpap titration?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what it is, the process of it, and the after results. I went to see a doctor today to consult about weight loss and I had to do some questionnaire. The doctor told me about doing surgery, which I forgot what it was called. But he also told me in order to get my surgery started, I had to do some sleep diagnostics and cpap titration. I was in a rush so I didn’t get to ask many questions. If anyone could help and if anyone’s experienced this, please inform about this process. Thanks.

CPAP is a type of therapy, where an oxygen mask is hooked up to you while you sleep, to keep your airways open. It is used primarily for sleep apnea, a syndrome in which you stop breathing throughout the night. It places extreme stress on your heart and circulatory system and can cause heart failure, CPAP corrects this.

Titration means to adjust a dose of something until the desired effects are achieved. In this case, I’ll assume the doc is talking about adjusting the dosage of an oxygen mixture to help keep your blood’s oxygen saturation at a normal level.

Sleep diagnostics probably means you will go to a sleep lab, and stay overnight so they can monitor your vital signs and observe any abnormalities in your sleep/breathing patterns. They’ll likely do the CPAP titration there, to ensure you are getting the full benefits of the CPAP therapy.
