Depression is caused when you think too much of something that makes you feel melancholy. Maybe you’re more stressed than depressed and that tends to keep you awake because you think so much about it. Your brain doesn’t want to stop thinking about it because it knows how you feel, and you panic, because in some situations you can’t resolve the issues, making you think more about it. The more you think about it, the more aware you get and harder it will be for you to sleep.
