Do I have symptoms of sleep apnea?
I GO TO SLEEP NORMALLY BUT I WAKE UP EVERYNIGHT NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATH, AS IF THERE IS PRESSURE CLOSING ME UP. THE ONLY WAY I AM ABLE TO BREATH OK AT NIGHT TO GET SLEEP IS BY PUTTING MY FINGER IN MY MOUTH AND FALLING ASLEEP WITH MY MOUTH OPEN(FINGER BEING A PRYBAR ALMOST) CAN NOT BREATH THROUGH MY NOSE AT ALL AND I AM NOT STUFFY OR DO NOT HAVE SINUS PROBLEMS THAT I KNOW OF. SOMETIMES I WAKE UP AND I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BITTEN MY FINGER OFF. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS VERY STRANGE , BUT I HAVE NO INSUR. TO GO TO DR. SO I GUESS I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHETHER OR NOT SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS IF I AM OK OR DO I NEED TO FIND A WAY TO GO TO DR. THANKS
Well i work for a company who specializes in people who have Sleep Apnea. Some of the symptoms are not being able to breath at night. All of our patient state that they stop breathing. They experience Daytime Sleepiness. Feel tired and sleepy all the time. Patient with Sleep Apnea experience difficult concentrating, overweight, heavy snoring, gasping for air. Also waking up tired. Some even fall asleep while they are driving. You should really see a Dr for this. This is very serious you need to take care of it. Their is a machine that helps you it is called a Cpap machine. Your Dr should help you with having them do a payment plan. He will probably send you to do a Sleep Study test. They do two studies, one called a Cpap titration and a polysomnography. The first night they will put you on a Cpap machine and then the next night you will be off of it. That way they can determine how bad your Sleep Apnea is.
This is indeed Sleep Apnoea. It is caused when a person falls asleep and is not able to maintain their own airway, thus causing a blockage and breathing becomes difficult or stops altogether.
This is usually caused by people who are overweight (grossly).
Loosing weight helps a great deal in SA.
If you go to a doctor, they may be able to help by giving some advice. There is a machine called a C-Pap which helps with SA.

Believe me I know this sucks, not having insurance. But as a nurse you should definitely get checked. This is only going to impede your life and health with time.
Look into some free clinics if there are any in your area.
You would not believe the effects that come from lack of sleep, beside just being tired the next day.
Please be checked…………Good luck

I think you need to go to the Dr. About a year ago I went to the ER with a migraine (i’ve had them forever) and they finally did a cat scan. Turns out I have this major mucus cysts in my maxillary and sphenoid sinuses that need to be surgically removed. I’ve never really had sinus issues or allergies. They have also scheduled me for a sleep apnea test because I told them I can only breath through my mouth when I sleep. I also don’t feel stuffy even thought my sinuses are completely full of these cysts. And if I don’t get them romoved they will eventually grow into themselves and turn cancerous. Better to be safe then sorry, call a doctor, explain you don’t have insurance but really need to be checked out and most places will put you on a payment plan. Or see if there is some kind of free clinic around your area.

As a student in medical electrophysiology, I would say u might suffer from sleep apnea so my suggestion is that u go see a doctor and he will prescrib to u a sleep test (polysomnography) to see if u really stop breathing when u sleep.

First of all I have sleep apnea! Second I think you have it pegged already! Now many towns have hospitals with sleep clinics in their charity hospitals also many doctors do work it out! Now the CPAP machine suppliers do supply them through some programs but they can be purchased on line for as little as $298 right from this very site! When you ask a question to yahoo answers the advertisers that come up! I was supprised at how low the price was for the minimum machine without all the bells and whistles!
You should really see a doctor there is really no other way ! The only treatment will be the CPAP device the main question will be determining the pressure it should be set for you !
I have no idea of where you live but I do know of some wonderful Charity hospitals with excellent sleep lab facilities in the nation!
In our area they are all private and we are at the mercy of the individuals who will contribute their time on a case to case basis depending on the individual! Most of the clinics are Doctor owned!
You really just need a sleep study because you might also have say RLS that restless leg syndrome or something else that is messing up your sleep!
Try the hospitals in your area that are affiliated with Churches first and see if they have a sleep lab.
Sleep apnea is potentially a killer! It nearlly killed ME! THIS IS WHY I AM SO PUSHY ON THIS TOPIC! I WAS IN A HOSPITAL IN A SIMPLE OPERATION UNDER ANESTHESIA AND I JUST STOPPED BREATHING …. KINDA LIKE DEAD FOR A MINUTE OR SO UNTIL THEY FIGURED IT OUT! See if you do not wake up your brain from the deep sleep and breath you die! This does not mean that you are aware you woke up because there are levels of sleep! See the brain only sleeps on the last level the sixth level called REM for rapid eye movement because our eyes move around rapidly during this time. Any annoyance like a leg twitch, having to make the lungs breath manually , almost any annoyance causes the brain to drop out of this level. That is why some people sleep 10 hours and are still tired … because they never let their brain sleep!
Anyway you really need to find a Doctor and get to be good friends with him! I promise you that your whole life will improve! You will have more energy require less sleep than before! I lost around 57 pounds just from breathing air! It really changed my life around!
Good Luck Please see a Doctor

You need to go to an ENT physician for diagnosis of sleep apnea, although it sounds as if you do have it. In the meantime, try sleeping on your side, never your back as this causes the soft tissue to obstruct your airway when you are relaxed. THere is treatment for sleep apnea, and if you have it, you should take care of it. It can cause right sided heart failure, and worse can make you hypoxic (lack of oxygen) and this is dangerous! Go to the doctor.

I have sleep apnea and my test indicated 726 disturbances in one night. I never got past stage two sleep out of the five stages of sleep. Before you get tested, pick-up and read Sleep Apnea for Dummies right away then get tested. Others here are right, check out some of the charity clinics. As for equipment, I’ve found http://www.cpap.com to have the very lowest prices and just about every model and style available. If you are in a coastal area, you might get away without a humidifier but if you are in a dry area, don’t skip it.
