If you’re caught sleeping on the job they have the right to fire you.
If it’s a medical condition you should have provided them with a note from your Dr when they employed you so they knew what was going on with you.

when i first got my CPAP machine it was a blessing ….but here latley i will go to bed as normal mask on nice and comfie then i awake to find that my mask isnt on my face …so i put the mask on again just to awake that ive taking it off again ..im really at a loss i love my mask but im removing it without knowing plez help

I don’t know what kind of mask and headgear you are using. I use a Respironics headgear which consists of elastic velcro straps.

There is a chin strap available, which is intended for people who have trouble keeping their mouth closed (and thus having a hurricane of air escape through their mouths). Perhaps a chin strap would make removal enough more difficult that you wouldn’t remove it?

If the mask removal isn’t too frequent, it may not actually be a problem. Even a couple of apnea incidents per night doesn’t amount to a serious problem. If I were worried, I’d try adjusting the headgear to be tighter (or looser). I’d try adding another attachment point (such as a chin strip). I’d perhaps try a different mask and headgear completely.

Or, I’d wait a few days and see if the problem corrected itself. Perhaps you are digesting a conundrum and sleeping more lightly than usual.

You can also consult with your doctor, medical equipment supplier, or support group. They may have better answers.

i know that for obsructive sleep apnea patients have CPAps or sumthing, that keep the airway from closing. But acute sleep apnea there is nothing to stop from closing because acute sleep apnea is when you just stop breathing. so whats the treatment?

When you say "acute sleep apnea," are you referring to Central Sleep Apnea? While obstructive sleep apnea is caused by the airway collapsing, central sleep apnea is a disorder where there is no drive to breathe. The most successful treatment for Central Sleep Apnea is a type of breathing machine that is similar to CPAP, but instead of supplying a constant air pressure, the pressure varies to stimulate the drive to breathe, similar to how a ventilator works. Like CPAP, this is applied via a mask that covers the nose or both the nose and mouth. Different companies have different trademarked names, but this "smart CPAP" often goes by the names VPAP or AutoSV ("SV" standing for "servo-ventilation"). Unfortunately, you may need to have as many as three overnight sleep studies — the first to diagnose apnea (whether obstructive or central), the second where you will be on regular CPAP or BiPAP (which is sometimes effective for central sleep apnea, so insurance companies require it be tried first), and then if that doesn’t work, a third night on VPAP or AutoSV. Central apnea is more difficult to treat than obstructive apnea, but as long as you get an experienced and capable technician running your study, there’s a very good chance of them finding the right pressures to keep you breathing normally through the night.

Guess my question is.. how soon can I expect to feel better, and just what will ‘feel better’ feel like? evidently i’ve had this for quite some time, and would appreciate hearing from someone with personal experience of treatment for same.
Thanx~

It takes time. Your body is used to running on empty so to speak and it has to readjust to being normal. Use the CPAP nightly as prescribed and hopefully you’ll see effects soon. If after a month you see no change in how you feel (less tired, etc) call your home care company for a follow up (which they should be calling you regularly anyway, be honest when you talk to them) Sometimes the pressure isn’t right the mask isnt right for the person and alot of patients hate c-flex from my experience. Sometimes turning that off helps.

I dont know exactly where you could get one in Thailand. My suggestion would be to try and get one online. If you have a prescription for one it should not be a problem. Try looking up Durable Medical Equipment Providers Online and see what you can find. You can also try CPAP.com. Respirionics and Resmed are both good units. Good luck.

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea that caused mu oxygen levels to drop in the 60% range. The condition was bad enough that surgery was offered.

My question: If you had surgery to correct you obstructive sleep apnea, what were your side effects (if any) and how long did it take to recover.

I’ve not had the procedure done (yet) but one of my coworkers had it done and it improved her whole life so much. Now that it’s been 10 years (she’s gotten older, plus she’s gained weight) she started to have difficulty staying asleep again so badly that she asked her doctor if she could have a second procedure but instead he has her on one of those ventilating machines–which she detests (but maybe her condition hasn’t progressed far enough to suggest surgery again yet). If your condition is bad enough your doc is recommending surgery, you ought to think about it–maybe get a second opinion. Surgery recovery may be painful but if it’ll allow you to breath (and avoid developing other health problems related to oxygen depravity), then it is well worth it–and whatever pain there is is transitory, it’ll go away once the incisions have healed and you[’ll feel so much better.

DW has tried a medium mask, small mask and now nasal pillows for sleep apnea. The CPAP includes a humidifier. I don’t think she has slept with the mask on thru the night more than 3 times in the last 3 years.

Has she tried the full mask or just the nasal type masks?

I have a full mask with head gear and it has to be adjusted around the forehead and the chin. Some people even have to sleep with a chin strap.

She also may need to change the seeting on her humidifier to be more or less than what she has it set for now.

Sometimes the brand that of mask that you use can cause irritation during the evening. Try using a different brand.

There is also a special pillow that has cutouts so that the mask is more comfortable to use. I personally did not like it but others can not live without it. It is made from memory foam.
