you will need to undergo an overnight sleep test in the hospital.

they will hook you upto monitors and you will go to sleep.

that is the only way to tell if you have sleep apnea - obstructive or central.

if you an overweight person, you might have obstructive sleep apnea.
References :
Most people who are overweight have sleep apnea. Although in my case I'm very skinny and still had it. You can have your parents, gf, roomate, etc, pop in randomly while you're sleeping to see if you're breathing, if you aren't that means you have sleep apnea. I got my tonsils removed and adenoids as well, that way I could breathe easy throughout the night. Now that could be an option for you. Or they'll hook you up with an oxygen tank, or a sleep study to see if you even have it. Good luck. And get your condition checked out sweetie.
References :
I had sleep apnea.

One common problem most sleep apnea sufferers share is excess body weight. If you are heavy, lose weight. It will mitigate your symptoms. Sleep clinic is only way to test.
References :
You can have a sleep test done to find out. You spend a night at a sleep disorder clinic. while you are hooked up to machine they watch to see how many times you stop breathing, if you do. If you have it you will probably need a C-Pap machine to help you breath while sleeping. There is an operation, but generally does not work. It's a serious thing. I would definitely look into a sleep test.
References :
Normally if you snore and stop breathing for a few seconds you could have sleep apnea. If you think you have it you should have a sleep study done. Symptoms will be poor concentration and feeling like you did not get enough sleep. This could be a serious problem and should be checked into.
References :
The only way to tell for sure is to have someone in attendance while you are sleeping. If you stop breathing for some seconds, and then resume with a gasp, you've got it. There are two common ways of dealing with it:
- A CPAP machine. This is an air pump that pushes air into a face mask that you wear while sleeping.
- Surgery. An operation called a UPPP removes some tissue from the throat to improve the airway. It is unpleasant and painful, but can cure the problem once and for all.
References :
I would check with a doctor. Both my parents have it. It is normally accompanies by VERY loud snoring which is often them trying to get air. But sleep apnea is serious and so if you are worried I'd see a doctor.
